Karijn kakebeeke, winner of the 2009 bmw – Paris Photo Prize for contemporary photography
25/11/2009 - The 2009 BMW-Paris Photo Prize jury rewarded the dutchwoman photograph Karijn Kakebeeke for her work, due to its relevance to the given theme, but also to the wonderful way she treated a controversial topic, which is to say the fact that a young afghan woman would play a sport that was for a very long time forbidden to women by the Talibans.

11/11/2009 - Could we just for a minute stop talking about “emerging” talent?! Let us just take a moment in time – like Paris Photo 2009 – and then imagine for a short while that we could choose the body of work of five photographers. Let’s also imagine and we can take home five works from the fair. Nice thought… so let’s dream on, just for a bit. No question, for the photographers we would pick Valérie Belin, Rineke Dijkstra, Désirée Dolron, Shoji Ueda and Paul Graham.
What about the five works? Tricky. We can think of at least a hundred. Let’s take the first five that really caught our eye. We would be sorely tempted to take home “The Name of the Moon” by Mary Mattingly at Robert Mann Gallery; “Verso” by Philippe Gronon at Dominique Fiat and “Untitled 2009,” by Carla van Putelaar at Flatland Gallery. “Adieu II” a work made this year by Shasha Weidner, at Toni Tapiès, would be another. “Nude Story” by Heinrich Kuhn at Johannes Faber is irresistible.
And… oh no, that’s five already. We would have loved to carry on…

07/11/2009 - We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall in our own way with the publication of a special issue of L’Insensé Photo called “Berlin & Co.” This issue is dedicated to contemporary German photographers. Above and beyond the leading schools of Düsseldorf and Leipzig, and talents that are already recognised on the international scene such as Gursky and Juergen Teller, we have also included young artists. They are the ones who are writing the new chapters in the history of German photography, and with this, the new chapters in the history of their country. From East to West and West to East, this young generation is supported and represented by galleries in what is the new cultural capital of Europe: Berlin.
